Divorce isn’t easy for anyone involved. For children, divorce can be especially stressful, sad, shocking and confusing. At any age, kids may feel uncertain about what life will be like, or angry at the prospect of Mom and Dad splitting up for good.
Counseling can be beneficial for kids who show signs of sadness, depression, anxiety, compromised self-esteem, social, behavioral and academic problems during and after the divorce process. At Divorce Doctor, our counselors can help your kids emerge from this time feeling loved, confident, strong and happy.
The counselors at Divorce Doctor are master’s and doctorate level therapists with years of professional experience working with individuals, couples, families, and children. The counseling process occurs in our comfortable offices with a therapist who is dedicated to helping your child process the changes occurring around him or her and emerge from this time feeling loved, confident, strong and happy. Counseling can be done individually with children, with a child and parent or as a family. Using evidence-based methods and age-appropriate tools like play and art therapy, your counselor’s role is to support your child’s journey.
As a parent you can make the process and its impact less painful for your children. It is normal to feel uncertain about how to give your children the right support through your divorce or separation. It is important however, to know that divorce will not end your family but change it, sometimes even, for the better.
At Divorce Doctor, Kid’s Club is designed for children ages 5-12. Kids Club is a safe, fun place where your children can develop healthy coping skills, as well as meet peers who have gone through the divorce process.
Facilitated by professionally trained therapists who have years of experience with children and families, Kid’s Club offers a combination of games, crafts, journaling, activity books, music, stories, videos and discussion to help kids process the divorce, move forward and learn how to heal.
Divorce Doctor offers a special support group, Teen Time, for adolescents 13-17 years old. Teen Time groups are facilitated by professionally trained counselors who have years of experience with children, teenagers, and families. These counselors are dedicated to creating a safe place for nurturing productive conversations around divorce. Teen Time offers your teenagers an opportunity to interact with peers who also have parents that are separated, divorcing, or otherwise changing the family dynamic. Teen Time is a fun group that helps young people develop coping skills together and create a community of shared experience.
